The big idea: run for their life.

nike

“If children have the ability to ignore all odds and percentages, then maybe we can all learn from them. When you think about it, what other choice is there but to hope? We have two options, medically and emotionally: give up, or Fight Like Hell.”

- Lance Armstrong

Mama Pearl’s decision was immediate without a hint of hesitation: fight like hell. And that’s exactly what she did. I have witnessed firsthand the power of emotion, spirituality, and attitude in the face of life’s greatest challenges. It is just as important as anything medical you can prescribe and Mama Pearl kept her internal IV of positivity flowing from day one. It made all the difference in the world as she learned to own her diagnosis rather than let her diagnosis own her. My family has not lost sight of the greater cause and we realize that the fight must continue. So remember the exciting new adventure I was hinting about? In true Pearl fashion I’ve decided to go big or go… big:

I have joined Team Livestrong to run in the NYC Marathon to raise money for those affected by cancer.

Livestrong’s focus is to improve quality of life by fostering hope, inspiration, and education through community support during a time when it’s needed most. Mama Pearl was always so uplifting to others, even through her diagnosis. I can’t imagine a greater tribute to her than to support an organization that does just that: uplift!

To guarantee a spot in the marathon I must raise a minimum of $3,800 by October 17th. Every dollar makes a difference. Get a piece of the action in the fight against cancer by clicking here to support the cause.

Thank you for your support!

  1. You are amazing! My boyfriend's brother quit smoking two years ago so we ran a half marathon in tribute of Lung Cancer. Your mom would be so honored. I know you said you are not a huge runner but you'll get addicted to it. I crave running. It's such a great outlet to think, listen to music, and be with your thoughts. Well...at least it is for me. I really think you'll fall in love with it. You are an inspiration to all! Good luck! Please keep updating. I want to hear all about it!

  3. Wow, way to go! What a great cause to run for. My aunt passed away from cancer last year. It affects so many people, and so it's awesome that you're bringing awareness and raising money for the cause! :) When is the race... how long do you have to train?

    1. Thanks Stephanie! It's November 4th so I have plenty of time to train. I'm thinking I'll have to do my longer runs at my gym though during Texas summer. Did 8 miles yesterday in the most horrid, hot humidity. Makes it hard to breathe!
