things my mama taught me: a dash of class.

accessories

[camisole – BCBG] [necklace – J. Crew] [scarf – Banana Republic] [bracelets – The House that Pearl Built, Kate Spade, J. Crew] [rings – heirloom, James Avery]

Mama Pearl never lost the shock and humble surprise when receiving continuous admiration of her style. Elegant. Classy. “Regia” as her Latina friends would say. Aristocratic was the the hardest to swallow for her. “Me?”, she would say, eyebrows up to her hairline in disbelief.

I’ll be the first to tell you that true beauty starts from within because try as you might, you can’t cover ugly on the inside. Sorry! You know I’m right. People can change that though. At least I like to think so. The truth is, sometimes it’s the smallest details that make you shine and bring out the inner glam. You don’t have to be doused in designer or covered in couture to make yourself fab. I pull out my favorite black go-to cami that I should probably give a formal name to by now. Paired with a jean that fits like a glove I could not feel more comfortable in my skin. With a note from Mama Pearl I grab a sleek little leopard scarf and layer on a few neutral accessories to pull it all together. When it comes to layering, I personally like to keep things neutral if I'm going for a more sophisticated look that day. It makes me feel more put-together as I make room for some fun without over doing it. Polish it off with a pair of oversized sunnies and the new bag of the season hanging on my arm and I’m set to conquer my day.

Thanks for the lesson Mama Pearl.

True class doesn’t come with a price tag.
