I'm a long time hater of Craig's list. My husband swears by it while I swear that it's full of the kind of people you never want to come by. Didn't you see the made for TV movie on the Craig's list killer? My God. Need I say more. I finally checked it out. A girlfriend of mine had gotten a fabulous piece of midcentury furniture off the site so naturally I figured such a find would be worth the risk. I spot the "Missed Connections" section on the home page. Interest perked... tell me more. This has to be one of the most fascinating things I've ever seen. Entry after entry of people posting. Leaving sad and hopeful messages for "that beautiful girl in the green shirt at the coffee shop who seemed so shy" or the one that "smiled a few times at me and waved while driving down the highway." There was even one for the "sexy pest control man." She writes, "let me know the name of your pest control company so I know it's you." You can feel this sense of mysterious loss in all their words. A brief flirtation that left them wondering and fantasizing about how things could have turned out differently in their lives had they just spoken. A path that regretfully wasn't followed and slipped right out of their reach. Some feel romantic. Others feel stalker-ish and totally creeptastic. And there I am with Craig. FASCINATED. I hope they find what they're looking for. And I'm sure that thing is called Love.
